What’s the purpose of all of this?
I mean, if we are born, then (most of us) live life for 15 - 95 years, and then we die… what’s the point? All the things we do, accomplishments we notch in our belt, relationships we have, money we make, cars we buy, food we eat, houses we own. What’s the point… when there is nothing we can take with us? The end for all of us is the same, regardless of the things we’ve accumulated over time. So why do we bother accumulating?
Think about this… if you were going on a trip upon which you KNEW that NOTHING you did today would help you prepare for the weather, activities, excursions, tours, food, cost, language, danger, etc., would you do anything to prepare? Would you buy a suitcase and spend hours agonizing on what to pack? Would you pick out outfits to wear? Would you save your money so that you could afford fancier dinner options and more exotic tours? Would you spend hours planning the flights, tours, rental cars, and lodging to make sure you would really enjoy yourself? Would you upgrade to first class?
I mean, how nice would it be to have the freedom to not have to think about ANY of that? (YOU CAN!) You could be wearing anything at the time it commences… or nothing at all! The money in your bank account won’t get you where you’re going any faster or better, and neither will first class tickets for that matter (everyone has first class tickets!) How nice would it be to know that your trip could start tomorrow, next week, next year, or when you’re 95. And though you’ll miss the people you leave behind, you will be in such a state of love and bliss (after all, you ARE returning home), that even that won’t matter.
I picture myself wearing a t-shirt a favorite pair of jeans, bare-footed, with a huge smile on my face, laughing even, with all the stress and worry of life gone from my expression, with tears of joy and love streaming down my face.
I doubt I’ll be ready… and yet when that time comes… whoooosh… off I go… and after IT happens… then and only then will I realize, I was always ready.
Because there is no place like home. And knowing we’re going home, on a trip for which we have to do nothing, is… such a gift.
So what’s to keep us from just pulling the rip cord on our own, now? Why don’t we (that’s a good topic for another post)? What is the purpose of the time we get to spend here?
No matter how long that time is (I’ve been here almost 58 years now), the purpose as I see it is to live the SHIT out of it!
EVERY. SINGLE. MOMENT.
Because in the big scheme of things, it happens so fast… in the blink of an eye… we CHOSE to be here… and we were granted our wish… and as part of the deal, we forget this.
So no matter what you’re going through…
The tough times, and the times of absolute ease.
The happiness… and the sadness.
The bliss, and the excruciating physical, mental, and emotional pain.
The loneliness, and the incredible connection and togetherness
The unfairness, shortness, longness, silliness, fun-ness, connectedness, disjointedness, scary-ness, fearlessness, loving-ness… ALL OF IT.
All of this is what it means to be truly alive.
Even when we think it’s not going our way… and see no way out… as if it can’t and simply won’t go our way.
In “reality”, it’s ALWAYS going our way, we just don’t see it or feel it… because, you see, it can’t NOT be.
And when we’re caught up in the thick of it, thinking, “Why me?”, “Why this?”, “Why now?”, “Why is this happening to me?”, if we can remember to remember… that all of this… ALL OF IT… is and never has been happening TO us… it’s a gift from God, the Universe, whatever Higher Power you believe in… and is happening FOR us.
Yes, the struggle is real… but so is the deep blue sky of joy, happiness, peace, and love… ALWAYS there for us, even when obscured by the clouds.
Remember… REMEMBER!!
So… I’m going to go now… because I have a lot to get on with… living the SHIT out of MY life.
And I hope you’ll do the same.
After all… It’s why we’re all here.
With Love,
Andy
